How do I collect personal information about you?

I obtain personal information about you that you provide to me through my website, emails, phone conversations, and documents for example when you:

• Enquire about my services
• Send in a helpline request
• Register for my legal updates
• Book a training course

What type of personal information do you collect?

The data I collect from you might include (but is not limited to) your name, address, email address, phone number and potential dietary requirements or if you have a disability when attending one of my courses.

How do I use that personal data?

I will only use the data provided to fulfil a contractual obligation to you, or where appropriate to fulfil a lawful requirement such a HMRC request.  I will not use the data provided for any other reason unless I have your explicit consent to do so.

How long do I keep personal data for?

In terms of helpline queries, I will keep those for a minimum of 6 years to ensure I can defend any legal claim.  In most other cases, I will only keep data for so long as necessary and this will be deleted securely using the appropriate software.

How do I store personal data?

I store data in two places, on Office 365 and Google Drive.  These storage devices have a high security access process.  I also encrypt  and password protect my  mobile devices to minimise the risk of data loss if they are stolen.

Who has access to my personal data?

In additional to the above companies, I do not currently share your data with anyone else unless I have your explicit consent. 

Your rights as an individual 

In this section I have summarised the rights that you have under data protection law.  Some of the rights are complex, applying only in certain circumstances and subject to certain exceptions, and in the interests of keeping this policy concise, not all of the details have been included in my summary  Accordingly, you should read the relevant laws and guidance from the regulatory authorities for a full explanation of these rights. 

You have the right:

• To object to me processing your personal information for marketing purposes. If you object, I will stop processing your personal information for this purpose.  When I collect your data, you can choose whether you wish to receive marketing communications from us. If you wish to stop receiving marketing communications, you can opt out at any time by sending me an email.
• To access the information I hold about you and certain information about our processing of it and your rights in relation to it.
• In certain circumstances, to obtain erasure of the personal information I hold about you, subject to certain exceptions.
• To rectification of the information I hold about you.
• In certain circumstances, to restrict my processing of your personal information or object to me processing it. If you object, I will stop processing your personal information unless certain exceptions apply.
